This embossed World War 1 gift tin box would typically contain 1 packet of tobacco, a packet of cigarettes, a Portrait Photograph of princess Mary and a Christmas card from Princess Mary, King George and Queen Mary and was sent to the troops by the Princess Mary gift fund. Intended for overseas troops, it was eventually opened up to all troops serving during the Christmas of 1914. This widened eligibility to an estimated figure of 2 620 019 troops.
